NHS Needs to join up its services to support our most vunerable young people and become more cost
You would think that the NHS would do their utmost to support our most vunerable young people. This blog is about not only the journey and difficulties that families may face but also suggestions as to how improvements could be achieved.

New Years Resolutions
How many of us have actually stuck to the plan we made for January the first , I certainly haven't . However I am not going to give up, mine were pretty predictable, loose weight ,move more and stop being scared of emails and telephone calls. I also wanted to start a new hobby , make sure the dogs walked 5 miles a day ,cleaned the house from top to bottom and generally became an organised wonder woman. Need less to say that hasn't happened, so its time to break it down into small manageable steps, baby steps in fact.
I think that I am slowly learning that I am only human and there is only so much that i can achieve without collapsing . It has also been pointed out to me that I need to keep my priorities straight, before trying to help everyone I need to make sure that everyone close to home is OK. This includes my amazing hubby who is my rock
There are very few marriages that can withstand what we have and still love each other to bits .
Family and Friends
We have been helped and supported by the most amazing network of family and friends both old and new , without this support I think that we would have crumbled. It amazes me that people who were complete strangers were willing to step in and help and have become really good friends.
Just a few pictures which show some of the incredible support that we have had to date . I think they also show that we had a bit of fun on the way . I will share more over my coming blogs.
So where are we now
As many of you know when the surveyor came out we had to increase our part of the the fund raising.
So it was time for Team Tyler
to pull out the thinking caps, well actually it was tea and cake with Stuart,Stephen, myself and Tyler (and 2 inappropriately behaving dogs, sorry guys, those of you who know us will know exactly what we mean).
The Plan of Action
The first big challenge to help with the fund raising is the Littlehampton Leap.
This one is particularly scary for me as I am actually going to take part!!!! Not only am I 50, terrified of heights, a size 18, to top it off its going to be freezing cold. But this is my personal challenge for together for Tyler so please come along and show your support.
There will be a team of us jumping in green, the gorgeous Sally Austin, the cheeky Stuart McGinley, a rather competitive Anna, or so I have been told.In addition to this we will be joined by Stephen P from the Obervor fame and Matt one of the Spirit FM local heros.
There may be a couple of others who can be persuaded to join us , thinking of a certain Simon, likes cake, works for Spirit....... Should anymore clues be needed please do let me know .
If anyone else fancies joining us please do let me know .
I am going to find it incredibly hard to jump so if someone wanted to offer sponsorship to push me this could be an option.
I also hope to have my hubby Craig and son Ben jumping with me , I am sure that they will give me a push if needed. Although I do hope that the team can jump together , Sally did promise to hold my hand .
I wont say too much more about this other than it is on Sund 18th Feb, if you would like to jump please do get in touch, if you cant jump please come along and give us a cheer and some sponsorship if you can.
To say that I am terrified is an understatement , it is freezing at present !. Is it really safe for a lumpy 50 yr old to even do this !!!
However this 50 yr old once committed is quite determined, please do come and show us your support . Spirit will be broadcasting from there for the first hour , and there is hot soup in the arun view so it should be lots of fun. At least for those watching !! Just wish my sis and family up north could be there to see me jump. Lisa, fancy a trip to Bognor!
More Exciting Events
Andy from the new Charlie Purley Pub has been in touch with two fab ideas, a quiz night and a Robbie Williams tribute night . Both sound a whole heap of fun and it would be greeat if you could join us , who can resist a bit of Robbie, more details to follow.
Looking forward to meeting up with him tomorrow to chat the events over. Have a look on FB for the event details , I will also post more info in my next blog.
It has been at moment s when I think that we will never get there that inspirational local people get in touch and offer a hand. What this means to us is beyond describable.
The sense of community that has come about through this campaign is just incredible. Spirit and The Observor are working together for the first time and look at what can be achieved .
It feels like something really special has happened and I hope that when Together For Tyler draws to an end, the project can continue to help other local amazing families. I would certainly love to be part of something so special .
Whilst talking about inspirational people I feel that I must mention Mr Bognor himself the late Erick Jacks.
I was overwhelmed when his family said that instead of flowers they wanted money to go to Tylers Trust . An amazing man who thought of others until the end , what a special family .
He has certainly inspired myself and many others as to how local communities can help and support each other.
BRAIN STORMING
I am looking forward to seeing Julie,Kerry, sue.Matt,Mandy and Tony this weekend, for a bit of brain storming , there may well also be a few drinks to hand to hel with this process.
The end is so close now just a few more events and we could be there.I dont have enough words to thank each and every amazing person who has helped us to get to where we are .
Please keep your ideas and positive thoughts coming . Also looking forward to catching up with Rita sen and hearing her thoughts .
My final word has to go to Ben, it was so lovely to see him this weekend and I do hope he is able to join us on the jump, miss him so much but so proud of him x
Please keep sharing and sending on to anyone who may be interested .

***Upsets ,Stress,Tyler's amazing Angels and Christmas!*****
HAPPY NEW YEAR
What a month we have had !
The Surveyor finally comes out !
I was so excited when I made the call to the surveyor I was almost jumping up and down . On the day of the visit I finally felt like we were actually going to make Tyler's dream come true. He was great and said that he would have his quote and initial thoughts to us before Christmas.
True to his word the letter came literally just before Christmas, you can imagine my shock when I opened it and his estimate was £10,000 more than the council had estimated . Gutted doesn't come anywhere near covering how I felt, I had to take a day or two to accept it and then give myself a kick and get on with it .
Part of me had hoped that we would be able to start raising funds for a car, that would take Tyler's electric wheelchair so that he could get to college, but with the amazing people that we have in our corner I know that we will get there.
Whilst I was trying to be positive and think of further ways to raise funds , I received a message from the amazing Janet at the Pink Pub. She had collected in all the money that they had raised and would we like to collect it ! What a lovely call to receive just at the right time.
What was even more truly amazing was how much this lovely small local pub had raised , it was over £3500. An absolutely incredible amount , Tyler's angels really are stars , and we cant thank each and everyone of them enough, along with the lovely Janet of course. I also think that it would be fantastic if the Angels could come out for a 2nd appearance , I do have an idea as to what their next mission could be !!! I will have to chat it over with them and Janet but a little stroll along the seafront is in the back of my mind.
Stephen P also raised an incredible £700 by running his first Great South run, what a incredible achievement , thank you .
Christmas
I think that after all the fun and games in the build up to Christmas when it actually came round we all just collapsed . Apart from colds it was a lovely family time , quite quiet but just what was needed . I even learnt how to play poker, well I think I did, we may have got some of the rules a bit wrong .
It was amazing having Ben home as well and being able to spend some quality time with him. The house felt empty when he went back to Uni but I am so proud of his achievements and the amazing young man he has grown into.
The New Year and the Fund Raising Continues .
So we still have a way to go particularly with the works needed that weren't included in the council estimate. If anyone has any idea's on things that we can do please get in touch. One event that is going to happen though, and much to my shock I am taking part in is the Littlehampton Leap.
When the Arun Diver's got in touch about this I promptly sent it over to Stuart at Spirit and Stephen from the Observor for a head to head. I said there was no way on earth that I was doing it as I am terrified of heights and not the slimmest of Ladies! I knew that the lovely Sally at Spirit was also afraid of heights so I felt quite confident in saying that I would only take part if she did , err what a mistake !
So I think that we will have to hold hands shut our eyes and just jump! This is a huge personal challenge for me and nervous isn't the word for it . The more people that get involved the more money that we can raise , if you fancy taking part you can do so for free if you raise sponsorship. If you cant take part please do come along and if you can sponsor me it would be greatly appreciated . For those who take part there is hot soup in the Arun View afterwards .
I haven't even started on New Year's resolutions , I will share these next time , I have a few and its all about doing things differently .
I will be writing lots of thank you letters this afternoon , please do let me know if you don't receive one.
As ever any fund raising ideas please do get in touch .

******What an amazing few weeks, achievements, set backs, fun, stress, tears and laughter!******
I really dont know where to start! I have been trying to find a few minutes to write this blog for about 2 weeks. So much has happened but to start some photo's.
As I write this I have to admit to feeling really stressed. I don't feel that I am managing my time very well at all. I keep compiling to do lists and its just not working. My diary is over run with appointments , sometimes up to 3 a day and I am going backwards .
That sounds really bad and I don't mean to complain because I am sooo grateful for all the help that everyone has offered us and the support shown. I guess I feel guilty that I have to sometimes say no or cancel things. It is a really hard thing to do ,to say please can we cancel an appointment when someone is doing something amazing for you .
All I can say is that from the bottom of our hearts we really do appreciate everyone's support, care and commitment to us . It really is amazing , anyway enough of that , my final point on this is that self help books really don't help , they just cause clutter ! However I have found one book which is fantastic and I will share more of this later .
So whats been going on ?
Together For Tyler Update
So many events, so much fun and an huge increase in money towards our target.
Spirit FM Quiz
What a night ,the venue was packed, there was even a reserve list for tables . A huge thank you to India,Sally Stuart and everyone else who organised this . I think that we were all just hoping that we wouldn't be the ones to win the wooden spoons . This honour went to my lovely friend Chris .
I am not actually quite sure who won the head to head out of Spirit and The Observer, I think it could be the Observor , but occasionally it has been known for me to be wrong !
However the main thing is that everyone had an amazing night .
One of the raffle prizes was a trip to meet the panel of celebrity juice and see it filmed. There was a great deal of interest in this but one particular lady was determined that this prize should be hers .
I am thrilled to say that the lovely Sally from Spirit was the winning bidder and she will be joining us on this trip next year.
What overwhelmed me though was the people that had come out to support us old friends and new. It was lovely to see old work colleagues from the Job centre and people that have come to mean an awful lot to us over the last few years.
I was particularly thrilled to meet Rita Sen and her team as it was due to them and Father Chris, that I was able to make the amazing announcement that we had reached the £20,000 target needed to book the surveyor!!! I hope to catch up with them soon and see how we can make a proper thank you for this donation.
Always love having my best friend Michelle in the venue as well.
This night raised over £2000 which is simply incredible . It was also a great deal of fun, although I think Stuart and Simon struggled to speak on their show the next day !!!
I'm not sure if its because they attempted some singing as a sideline ?!
So that was Wed night with Thursday came the Quiz with a difference.
This was organised by the lovely Kerry,Susan and Julie with lots of help from their team, including fantastic music by the choir . For this quiz we were joined by Stuart ,Wayne and Simon Quiz master supremo!
It was quite probably due to this fact that we won by one point. Well that and the fact that we played our joke on the starwars round and bribes were accepted. Final figures to be confirmed from this but its in the region of £1500, what an achievemnt .
The following night Tyler was asked to open the newly refurbished Southdowns pub. This was a real treat as the food was amazing , photo's to follow, but we really look forward to working with these guys.
On Saturday we were treated to 2 events , the first being at the Pink Pub.
The lovely Janet had arranged for some of her regulars(male) to dress as Tyler's angels. Well the perfect hair, nails and outfits put us to shame.
It was then over to Tyler and Sally Austin to award the prizes, a very difficult task indeed, especially for the best boob category. Funds are still being raised for this event via a silent auction with 3 fantastic prizes up for grabs. Have a look at the Pink Pub FB page for more details .
As if this wasn't enough excitement for one evening , Tyler , Sally and myself went on to a fantastic 80's night disco, arranged by Matt Langotn and starring Ian Crouch DJ supremo.
Tyler was allowed to have a day of rest on Sunday and then on Monday he was off to the Observor awards to pick up an award from the legendary Fred Dinnage .
Apparently a discussion around age had everyone in hysterics. I have to admit that I didn't make this one as by this time I had gone down with a awful cold, but Tyler being the trooper that he is carried on .
We do not have all the money in yet from all the events but when we do I will post the figure.
This all sounds like a huge amount of fun and indeed it was but I have to remember the serious side of why we are doing this , to give a young man his future.
There are many issues that still need to be overcome not just for Tyler but for other's in his position. We still face on going difficulties in getting the education that is suitable and appropriate for Tyler . This has been going on for months , we have made some progress but it is very limited .
Likewise the lack of support for young people who are transitioning into adult services is of serious concern. Having attended a children's board in July the October meeting was due to discuss this very matter. At present despite numerous emails to the NHS I cant even find out when the next board will be . To me this is unacceptable the support is required now and there are changes that could be made without huge financial cost .
This begs the question where do we go next, how do we get people to listen. It is simply not acceptable to allow vulnerable young prople to loose years of their lives . Well I have tried the NHS route perhaps a political one is the next way. If anyone has any idea's on how we get people to listen please do let me know .
It really scares me that if our local community had not stepped in and helped us , how long would we have lived with a bed in the lounge.
This is only part of the picture though, how many people are condemned to a life on benefit because of the lack of support .
These issues have to be raised, heard and addressed. It can not be a single voice it needs everyone who is experiencing insufficient support to highlight this .
It may be that Charities can step in and help bridge some of the gaps, particularly if they can join forces.
However that is a battle for next year, at present my focus must remain on getting Tyler what he so desperately needs.
I don't have the words to describe the joy that I felt when I could ring the council to say we had enough money to book the surveyor. They must have thought that they had loopy lady on the phone as I was virtually in tears.
There are so many people that have helped to make this happen from Team Spirit,The Observor ,Tony,Chris at the Windmill, simply too many to mention but thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We have a way to go yet but I honestly believe in my heart that we will get there . Once we have done so it would be amazing to think that maybe Tyler's Trust can work in conjunction with groups like the above to help other families.
There is so much goodwill out there and as a community I think something special has been achieved .
I must say a big thank you to Knights fencing who have agreed to only charge us for materials - thanks Danny and team.
I am starting to think about fund raising for next year already, I think a bake off would be fantastic, more quizzes and something called the Littlehampton Leap. More on that to follow, but if you have any idea's please do get in touch.
It is also becoming very clear to us that to allow Tyler to get to college we need a vehicle that will take a electric wheelchair so if you have any ideas on that please again do get in touch.
I have loads more to add but will keep it for the next update as I would hate to waffle too much .
One last point that I must add is that I am reading a book called Happy by Fearne, it is fantastic if you have ever been stressed or depressed , very inspirational . Its certainly helping me .
